Bold, international, electrifying.

Our story

The Evelyn String Quartet is a vibrant ensemble based in New York City. Having met at The Juilliard School, they discovered their shared passion for chamber music and formed a string quartet in 2024. Being from different corners of the world, their individual experiences and cultural traditions shape their sound, immersing their audiences into a unique atmosphere. Violinist Eliane Menzel, born and raised in Germany, has been admired for her brilliant playing and her transparent musicality, mesmerizing audiences across Europe and America. Finish/American Violinist Charlotte Loukola has been praised for her dazzling tone and her bold yet tender playing, which has captured audiences on both sides of the Atlantic. Canadian Violist Christoph Chung has been hailed for his warm tone and expressive playing. His dedication to chamber music and love to share music makes him one of the most sought after violists of his generation. Joining in December 2025, cellist Hannah Rubin brings mesmerizing sensitivity and fresh energy, continuing the quartet’s evolving journey.

Previously known as Ensemble Nerina, the quartet has performed across the United States, including appearances on Texas Public Radio and prestigious stages such as Weill Hall and Carnegie Hall in 2024 and 2025. Their first European tour in the summer of 2025 took them through Finland, Sweden, Germany, and Austria, earning critical acclaim. In Neuenburg, Germany, their performance was described as “breathtaking,” with Christoph Chung’s hauntingly expressive solo in Smetana’s String Quartet No. 1 called “downright earthshattering” by NWZ Newspaper.

The Evelyn String Quartet continues to explore new horizons, with upcoming performances including a world premiere by German-American composer Henryk Golden at Carnegie Hall in April 2026.
